ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The U.S. Senate race in Alaska is significantly influenced by rising energy prices, fuel costs, and the high cost of living in the state. As the largest state in the U.S., Alaska also experiences some of the highest fuel prices.

Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola noted the lack of discretionary income for households, leading many to rely on credit cards to pay their bills, describing this trend as unsustainable. Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan emphasized the importance of resource development to address energy costs and create job opportunities. Alaska’s News Source reported a dramatic rise in gas prices, including a notable hike to $24.49 per gallon in some villages. Diesel remains high, underscoring transportation challenges in remote areas.
