The key to success in business? Take risks. Just ask the owner of the Kobuk

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – In a conversation about entrepreneurship, Deborah Bonito, who is married to former senator and Anchorage mayor Mark Begich, emphasizes the importance of taking risks in business. “I’m totally supportive of my husband and proud of everything that he does, but it was important to me to do my own thing, stand on my own two feet,” Bonito remarked. Known for her retail prowess, she owns seven businesses in Anchorage.

Bonito describes herself as a “serial entrepreneur” and cites the Kobuk as perhaps her most recognized establishment. She fondly recalls, “My sister and I always loved the Kobuk before we owned it.” During a recent interview, she shared insights on work-life balance and her future plans for the Kobuk, including possible developments to enhance community engagement near the park. “I’m considering building onto the back of the Kobuk property… a great little business model,” she added.
