Mr. Whitekeys, famous Alaskan entertainer, dies at 79

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Doug Hagar, famously known as Mr. Whitekeys, has died at the age of 79. His wife, Judith, shared the news on Monday afternoon. Friends paid tribute to him on his official Facebook page, recalling his signature closing lines: ‘live a life filled with peace, love, and Spam; do something to make the world a better place; and be sure to tip your waitress.’

For many years, Mr. Whitekeys entertained audiences across Alaska through his music, comedy, and performances that often featured humorous jabs at politicians and notable locals. He relocated to Alaska in 1998, starting his career by playing piano in various bars. His work included writing columns for the Anchorage Daily News and regular satirical commentary on KTUU-TV. He was also the owner of The Fly By Night Club from 1980 until 2006, a venue known for its lively atmosphere centered around ‘Spam, Booze, Rhythm, and Blues.’
