Alaskans join nationwide No Kings rally focused on getting out the vote

On Saturday, Alaskans participated in the nationwide No Kings day of action aimed at encouraging early voting for the upcoming November elections while expressing their discontent with the Trump administration. According to Corinne Smith with the Alaska Beacon, early in-person voting will begin in many Alaska locations on Monday.

During the event in Juneau, organizers urged residents to vote early and raise awareness among friends and family regarding the importance of voting ahead of the November 3 election. Anjuli Grantham from Juneau for Democracy highlighted the need for civic engagement, stating, “We’ve been living for the last couple of years under a consolidating authoritarian regime.” In addition, they rallied against rising fuel prices connected to the U.S. war on Iran and voiced concerns about threats to democratic rights.

Some counterprotests were noted, including an incident in Fairbanks where a person wielded a Nazi flag, prompting an organized security response from event organizers. Despite this, the overall atmosphere was described as positive, with hundreds attending the rallies to support local candidates and promote voting.
