Sitka Honors Alaska Day: 159 Years Since the Flag Transition

On October 18, 2026, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, the only Democrat in Alaska’s gubernatorial race, traveled to his hometown of Sitka to take part in Alaska Day commemorations. His visit coincided with the beginning of early voting for the upcoming general election on November 3. This year’s celebrations mark the 159th anniversary of Alaska’s transfer from Russia to the United States, which took place on this date in 1867.
During the formal handover, the Russian flag was lowered, and the American flag was raised on Castle Hill. Alaska Day is celebrated annually in Sitka, where a festival draws participants from all walks of life, reflecting both the history of the transfer and the diverse cultures present in the region. This festival serves as a reminder of the complex legacies of colonialism that still affect Alaska’s Native peoples today, as articulated in the National Park Service’s “Voices of Change” exhibit.

About Alaska Day, I just found out Russia rather than risk Britain absorbing Alaska through Canada because of Russia losing the Crimean war with Britain. France, and Ottoman Empire; they sold Alaska to USA than lose Alaska for Nothing!
The most interesting part is the Ottoman Empire part in Russia losing. Today Islamists are back again and forming political alliances within this country between dividing parties for its own gain.

…..and the media is struggling hard to keep it completely hidden until after the election. Then, the peter puffer can pick all the pickled peckers he wants. Alaskans are about to get incredible fooled by the LGBTQ mafia.

If JKT loses. Him and His family will be forgotten and go back to living their quieter lives. However if he loses this campaign race, it’ll not be Alaskans last time to see JKT running for office. In the off season he’ll look back on his minor mistakes made from this race, and repolish his political image and messaging/branding. He hasn’t done anything Horrendous as Peltola if she loses because if she loses this year. She is Finished from all campaigns!! She’s done!! Ak Democrats could still use him in a future race. Maybe Stedmans seat? Maybe US Senator or US House?

They lived a quiet life until JKT decided to run for State House and picked a really unorthodox way AKLeaders will get to work He rode his bicycle from Sitka to Juneau and continued riding it to and fro home and work; they even gave him his bicycle a little DMV license plate and bicycle parking spot. It was adorable Action and am inspiring act for him to demonstrate until Alaska that if you can then make bicycling your mode of transportation (if your life can let you), Alaska never saw that before and probably will never see it again in another legislator.

JKT is a peter-puffer, and that’s about it……

Geez, I bet JKT’s family was there when the flag was raised. Anyone know “anything” about JKT’s background other than his mommy was a doctor and he lives at home in Sitka? Anything? Anyone?
